Retour sur les méthodes de fouille et d'enregistrement des bûchers à Fouquereuil (62)
Résumé
The archaeological excavation led at Fouquereuil (Pas-de-Calais) in 2010 has revealed a vast funerary area, comprising more than 20 cremation pyres dating from the Roman period and a late second Iron Age settlement. Prior to the fieldwork, we had been thinking about ways to optimize our digging and recording methods because of the rescue archaeology aspect. We needed to be able to gather as much information as possible in the minimum amount of time. Pyres were dug according to a 20 cm grid and frequent rotations of buckets containing the remains of the pyres meant that sieving could be done inside. Photographical records of each grid square were taken but we realised afterwards that it was not an efficient way of doing. More reflexion is under way to overcome these issues.
